Google’s Mobile-First Indexing Is Here!

As Skynet Solutions has predicted over the last year, Google has now started rolling out mobile-first indexing to more sites. This means that the mobile version of your website’s content will ultimately create and determine how you rank, even for desktop users. This announcement is the first time Google has verified a large number of sites will be included in the mobile-first indexing process.

Historically, Google has crawled, ranked and indexed websites based on the desktop version of a page’s content. This can be problematic for mobile users if the desktop version of a website is different than the mobile version. The transition to a mobile-first indexing system is in support of Google’s mission to provide relevant results to all users, regardless of the device they are using.

Website owners will know whether or not their site has been included in the migration by a message found in the Google Search Console. In this message, Google explains that site owners may see more traffic from Googlebot Smartphone and search results snippets that are now generated from the mobile version of their website. This decision comes in response to the need to provide more relevant results to the growing number of search requests from mobile users.

Google has recommended that websites take on a responsive design to ensure content remains the same between both the desktop and mobile version. This is important because Google has conveyed previously that content that isn’t mobile-friendly won’t rank as well. At Skynet Solutions, we approach website design solely from a responsive perspective, making each website we design ready for this migration.

Skynet Solutions takes pride in providing transparent and effective web design services for businesses at all sizes. We can ensure that your website is ready for mobile-first indexing by implementing a responsive web design for your business.
